§ 2.04. Mayor.

  • (a)

    Election. The mayor shall be elected for a three-year term, as set forth in section 2.02(a) of this Charter.

    (b)

    Duties. The mayor shall preside at meetings of the council and shall be recognized as head of the city government for service of process and ceremonial matters.

    (c)

    Absences. The vice-mayor shall act as mayor during the absence or disability of the mayor and if a vacancy occurs or exists in the office of mayor. The vice-mayor shall become mayor for the completion of the unexpired term of the former mayor. In the temporary absence of the mayor and vice-mayor the remaining council members shall select a mayor pro tempore. In the event of a permanent vacancy in the office of mayor and vice-mayor, the council shall select a mayor and vice-mayor from the remaining members of the council to serve in that capacity until the next election.
